Custom Deck Building for Homeowners Who Want It Done Right

Craftsmanship Backed by Real Reviews

Custom Deck Construction for Residential Properties

A well-built deck extends your usable living space, enhances your home’s curb appeal, and adds real value to the property. JACK Contracting designs and builds custom decks for homeowners who want a finished product that looks great, functions exactly as intended, and is built on a structural foundation that will last for years without problems. We handle everything from the initial design and permitting through framing, decking, railing, and stairs.

Every deck project starts with a conversation about how you plan to use the space, what aesthetic you are looking for, and what your budget allows. From there we develop a design that fits the footprint of your home, integrates well with the existing exterior, and meets all applicable code requirements for setbacks, structural loading, and railing heights. You see the plan before any work begins and have the opportunity to adjust it until it is exactly what you want.

Deck Material Options That Fit Your Goals and Budget

The two most common decking material categories are pressure-treated lumber and composite decking, and each has real advantages depending on your priorities. Pressure-treated wood is a strong, cost-effective choice that, when properly installed and maintained, provides many years of reliable service. Composite decking materials made from wood fiber and recycled plastics offer superior resistance to moisture, insects, and UV fading, and require far less ongoing maintenance than natural wood.

JACK Contracting installs decks using both material types and can help you understand the real differences in upfront cost, maintenance requirements, and expected lifespan for each. Framing and structural members are always constructed from pressure-treated lumber regardless of the surface decking material chosen, ensuring the structural integrity of the deck is built to code and designed to carry the loads placed on it safely. Railings, stairs, and fascia can be matched to the decking material or mixed for a custom look.

Structural Quality and Proper Permitting on Every Deck Project

A deck that is not properly designed, permitted, and built can be dangerous and will almost certainly cause problems when it comes time to sell your home. Decks require permits in virtually every jurisdiction, and a deck built without proper inspection creates a liability that follows the property. JACK Contracting pulls all required permits, builds to code, and coordinates all required inspections so your deck is fully compliant and documented from the start.

The structural elements of a deck including the ledger connection to the house, the post footings, beam sizing, and joist spacing are all critical to safety and longevity. We engineer these elements correctly for the size and load of the deck being built, not to the minimum that looks like it might pass an inspection. The result is a deck that performs safely and looks excellent for years, and a permit history that protects you when the time comes to refinance or sell.

READY TO PROTECT YOUR HOME?

JACK Contracting brings military discipline into every project; clear communication, high standards, and respect for your home. We take our responsibility seriously and make the process simple, transparent, and stress-free from start to finish.

What Homeowners Ask About Deck Construction

Do I need a permit to build a deck?
In most jurisdictions, yes. Decks above a certain height and square footage require permits, structural plan review, and inspections at key stages of construction. JACK Contracting handles the permit application process as part of every deck project so the work is fully compliant and properly documented.
A straightforward deck project typically takes one to two weeks from the start of construction to completion, depending on size, complexity, and material lead times. Projects involving multiple levels, covered structures, or significant custom elements may take longer. We provide a realistic timeline during the estimate process.
Pressure-treated lumber is a natural wood product that is affordable and widely available, but it requires regular sealing or staining to maintain its appearance and resist moisture over time. Composite decking requires minimal maintenance, resists fading, staining, and insect damage, and retains its appearance longer with far less effort. Composite typically costs more upfront but often provides a better value over the life of the deck.
If the decking surface is heavily weathered, split, or stained, replacement boards may be a straightforward fix. If the structural framing, posts, or ledger connection shows signs of rot or deterioration, a more significant rebuild may be warranted. We can inspect your existing deck and give you an honest assessment of what is actually needed.
Yes. We build covered deck structures, pergolas, and shade structures as part of our deck services. Adding a covered element involves additional structural considerations and permitting, and we handle all of it as part of the project scope.
Yes. Decks are consistently cited as one of the higher-return outdoor improvement projects for residential properties. A well-built, properly permitted deck adds real value at resale and meaningfully improves the quality of outdoor living in the meantime.
